Welcome to My Website!

This is my new website dedicated to Education. As a new teacher, I am just starting out on my journey. This website will contain some of the new ideas and thoughts I have encountered or experieced as I continue to grow as a teacher.

The majority of this website will be dedicated to Literacy as I am currently taking a course in Teaching Reading at the University of British Columbia. I am hoping to complete a diploma in Language and Literacy by May 2006.

Literacy is of course, extremely important even with the technological advances that appear to relieve the need to actually write by hand. However, as we become more reliant and able to use computers, cell phones and other devices, we need to be aware that all these inventions are made to make our lives easier.

We are all social beings in this world- even if we try our best not to communicate with others we do not want to. Language- whether it is written, oral or silent, or English or another language, or if it made up of letters, numbers, characters or gestures,- is one of the most amazing inventions ever. In a way, language is a technology.

My job and goal as a teacher is to help my students become confident in their use of language to communicate and able to learn and share information with the world around them.
